I have been honored to serve on the Board of Education for Culver City Unified School District since 2015. My background with CCUSD includes more than 12 years of volunteerism and leadership. I helped form the United Parents of Culver City (UPCC) and have held numerous volunteer leadership positions including: Room Parent, PTA President, Council PTA Vice President, and chaperone for the Mexico Exchange Program. At my core, I am a volunteer and I value being of service to others. This is my motivation for seeking re-election.
In addition to my service on CCUSD’s Board of Education, I work as an Teacher/Advisor for LAUSD’s Division of Adult and Career Education (DACE). This is a hybrid role co-sponsored by the City of LA’s Economic Workforce Development Dept. The clients and students I serve is by and large an underrepresented and underserved population. I work with the case managers at these one stop centers to deliver training and employment opportunities to their clients and other community based organizations. I also serve on the board for Venice Family Clinic’s Early Head Start Policy Council.
I am the eldest of a large military family. My military childhood involved many moves and transitions that included 3 elementary schools, 2 middle schools, and 2 high schools. I am also the first person in her family to attend a 4-year university. My mom has the equivalent of a 3rd grade education from Thailand. It was up to me to decide my college pathway--financially, academically, in every way. As such I truly understand the experience of first generation college students and the massive level of support it requires.
I have always been a champion for education, first-generation students, veterans, women, and the LGBTQ community. With a lifelong commitment to social justice and equity, I support efforts focused on improving the lives of all people and communities using activities such as education, advocacy, civic engagement, and policy analysis.
I’m proud of our district and the work we have done the past 5 years. I want to continue to serve and move our district forward.
